This is a trying and difficult time for all of us. The coronavirus has taken over and the last few weeks have been an uneasy time, where no one quite knows what is going on or when this will end. It has affected every life, even if not directly and we have to adapt to a new, and temporary version of normal. It is being advised that we stay at home, stay inside, and avoid contact with others. Social distancing has become the new normal and 6 feet apart is the closest we should get. Schools have shut down, travel halted, and everything but essential has closed.
Things are changing fast and can be very confusing and overwhelming. But, this too shall pass and soon enough we will be able to get back to a normal life.
Staying busy during the time at home is the best way to stay sane and productive during a stressful time.
A tip for staying sane: have a schedule. Create a list of things you want to accomplish the night before. A schedule will help you stay productive and waking up around the same time will help you stay on a regular sleep cycle and keep you feeling your best.
Here are some ideas of things to do at home while stuck in quarantine
Learn Something New
What better way to spend extra time than learning something you’ve always wanted to? There are so many options online to learn something for free or low cost, whether its an instrument, language, etc.
Read a Book
Reading a book is a great way to pass time. No matter what your interest is, reading is a great way to learn something, transform into a different world, and take your mind off of the craziness going on in the world right now. For easy reading (and to save some money), the Kindle is an awesome way to get a large variety of books. You can even get a month of unlimited content for free!
Do a Puzzle
Puzzles of any sort are great for passing time. Jigsaw puzzles, crosswords, sudoku, etc. These are some awesome jigsaw puzzles that will definitely take some time to do.
Even though we are in the midst of social distancing and many places have issued a stay at home order, those typically allow you to still go outside. Not outside as in go shopping or public places, but rather outside as in a walk in the neighborhood or on trails. Even sitting out on your back porch enjoying the weather is a good option! I personally love going on the trails with my dog! Getting outside and getting fresh air is a way to stay healthy, stay sane, and get some Vitamin-D.
Plan Your Next Adventure
Although travel restrictions and the COVID-19 virus are preventing travel right now, planning your next trip or adventure is the perfect way to pass time at home as well as give you something to look forward to for when this is all over!
There are a ton of different ways to exercise, even without a gym. Doing a short (or long) workout at home is a great way to burn some energy and time. Check out my no-equipment travel workout that you can do anywhere (even at home)!
Have a Virtual Happy Hour
Hop on Zoom, Facetime, Skype (or whatever your video chat preference is) and connect with your friends and family, while all enjoying a drink from a ~ safe ~ distance!
Clean Out Your Closet
I know you probably have some old sweater in the back of your closet that you never wear anymore because me too. Take this time to go through your closet, donate what you can, sell what you want, and throw away what you have to.
Netflix Binge/Watch Party
Have movie nights while staying safe is even easier now with Netflix Party. Sync a show or movie with several friends and all watch together!
Take a Nap
It’s okay to rest. It’s okay to take a nap. It’s okay to not be productive every second of the day. Listen to your body and sleep when you’re tired. BUT try not to nap too late in the day, unless you want to be awake all night!
Clean Out Your Inbox
If you’re anything like me, you have a troublesome amount of unread emails in your inbox. For me, when I check my email, I open the important ones but leave the others alone. This isolation is the perfect time to go through and delete unnecessary emails, unsubscribe from unwanted subscriptions, and delete old emails.
Take a Virtual Tour
There are a number of museums and facilities around the world that are offering free virtual tours of the museum. These are some available tours to check out
Clean your room. Clean your kitchen. Clean your makeup brushes. Clean it all. I mean it is spring anyway right? It’s the perfect time to do some deep spring cleaning!
Make a Travel/Life Bucket List
Where do you want to go, what do you want to? Make a list of everything you want to go and the things you want to do during your lifetime. It will help take your mind off of the negative and look forward to something exciting!
Listen to a Podcast
There is so much you can learn from podcasts whether its about business, health, finance, self-growth, or really anything you can imagine. Podcasts typically can range from a short 15 minutes to over an hour. Some of my favorite podcasts are Rise Podcast by Rachel Hollis and Lead to Win by Michael Hyatt, although there are countless others.
Plant Some Flowers
Planting flowers or starting a garden can be almost therapeutic. If you are starting to go stir-crazy, this can get you outside and busy without breaking the social distancing “rules.”
Another great way to relax! There are a ton of resources online that can guide you through meditation or just provide a soothing background. If you’re new to meditation I suggest starting with a short guided meditation and working your way up from here!
Whether its a sewing project, crafts, or home DIY project, doing something yourself can be gratifying and a good way to pass time.
Scroll through all of those delicious Pinterest recipes you’ve saved and said you would get to one day. Guess what? Today is THAT DAY! Try your hand at making a culinary delicacy, or just an unhealthy amount of muffins.
Spa Day at Home
Take some time to relax! Light some candles, do a facemask, run a bath and have a self-care day in the comfort of your own home.
Start a Business
I started my Arbonne business as a side hustle a little while back and can honestly say it has been such an amazing and life-changing experience (email me for more info!). But whatever your interest is or if you’ve been thinking about starting something, NOW is the time.
